Happy Birthday

Today is Noah’s birthday so we celebrated with two typical Jerusalem activities.  First, we went to the Malha Kanyon (the big mall) for lunch and some shopping.  The mall is an absolute zoo.  In fact, there are animals literally running around various parts of the facility.  It’s a real slice of Israeli life, especially the food court.  Later, we had dinner at Beit Ticho, an old Jerusalem institution.  The house is now a museum to Anna Ticho, an artist and a nurse, and the work of husband in pre-1948 Jerusalem as an eye doctor.  The Ticho house holds one of the Jerusalem’s better restaurants in a beautifully maintained courtyard and old house.  Tuesday nights is Jazz performance night and the house was packed.

Tomorrow we leave the AC comfort of the hotel and move back into our apartment.  Thankfully the heat has broken somewhat and we are hoping that Secretaries Rice and Gates have brought coolness to the Middle East (in all the ways one can mean that expression).
